FlySafair Launches Birthday Sale Amid Rising Costs

flysafair — ZA news

Due to rising jet fuel costs linked to global tensions, this year’s FlySafair sale will add taxes and surcharges to the advertised R12 fare, making it different from previous years.

The FlySafair Birthday Sale starts on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, at 9am. The airline will offer 50,000 one-way seats at R12 each. However, airport taxes and fuel surcharges will be applied to the base fare.

Tickets can only be booked via the FlySafair website flysafair.co.za. A waiting room system will be used to manage high demand. Customers will have 10 minutes to complete their booking once selected.

Each person can book R12 tickets on up to two bookings. The sale excludes flights to Mauritius, Zanzibar, Windhoek, Victoria Falls, and Harare.

FlySafair states that entry into the booking site is completely randomized. This means it’s not about who logs in first – it’s all down to luck. The airline emphasizes that pricing will remain fully transparent throughout the booking process.

This sale is one of the cheapest flight sales in South Africa each year. The impact of rising jet fuel costs has prompted adjustments in pricing strategies across the aviation industry.
