FlySafair’s Birthday Sale starts on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, at 9am. This year, the sale will feature added taxes and surcharges on the advertised R12 fare. The increase comes as a result of rising jet fuel costs linked to global tensions.
Customers can book 50,000 one-way seats for R12 each through the FlySafair website flysafair.co.za. However, they should expect additional airport taxes and fuel surcharges, which will be included in the final price during the booking process.
A waiting room system will manage high demand for these cheap flights. Customers will enter a virtual waiting room for their chance to book tickets. Once selected, they will have 10 minutes to complete their bookings.
The sale allows each person to book R12 tickets on up to two bookings. However, flights to Mauritius, Zanzibar, Windhoek, Victoria Falls, and Harare are excluded from this promotion.
FlySafair emphasizes that pricing will remain fully transparent throughout the booking process. “Entry into the booking site is completely randomized,” the airline stated. “It’s not about who logs in first – it’s all down to luck.” Customers should be prepared for a competitive environment as many seek these low fares.
This annual sale is one of the cheapest flight sales in South Africa. The addition of fuel surcharges marks a significant change from past years, where such fees were not as pronounced. As global tensions continue to impact jet fuel prices, future sales may also reflect similar adjustments.
