Julius Malema is pursuing legal action against Ngizwe Mchunu for defamatory remarks related to drug money allegations. Malema demands a retraction and R1 million in damages from Mchunu.
Mchunu alleged that Malema received R60 million from Nigerian drug dealers during an anti-illegal immigration protest. Malema’s legal team described these claims as false and defamatory.
Malema’s lawyers have given Mchunu 24 hours to retract the claims and apologize. They stated, “Your statements are neither true nor in the public interest.” They further added that “Your defamatory statements are vexatious, untrue, spurious and misplaced.”
The allegations could significantly damage Malema’s political reputation ahead of local government elections. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) called the claims a “malicious lie.” Mchunu has not publicly responded to the legal demand yet.
This legal action follows remarks made by Mchunu during an interview on April 28, 2026. The situation reflects the ongoing tensions within South African politics as figures like Malema face challenges to their credibility.
