A swift police operation on May 2, 2026, led to the rescue of a 30-year-old victim in Kagiso, South Africa. The victim was kidnapped the previous day, with a ransom demand of R500,000.
The incident began on May 1 when a house was broken into. A multi-disciplinary task team from the South African Police Service (SAPS) was activated immediately. This team included members from West Rand Crime Intelligence and Kagiso Visible Policing.
Police traced the suspects to a premises in Tshepisong Phase 1. Three suspects, aged 23, 24, and 25, were arrested during the operation. The police also seized a white Suzuki bakkie, Capitec bank cards, and cellphones.
The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner commended the operation. He stated, “This successful rescue of the victims shows what integrated intelligence and dedicated teams can achieve.” The suspects are expected to appear in Kagiso Magistrates’ Court on May 4.
This case follows another incident where a nine-year-old girl was kidnapped for ransom on March 3. She was also rescued, and four suspects were arrested in that case.
The investigation remains open and further arrests are not ruled out. Police urge the public to report any criminal activity they witness.
