Heidi Klum attended the 2026 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, showcasing a custom look inspired by classical sculptures. Her ensemble aimed to create the illusion of a ‘living sculpture,’ reminiscent of the Veiled Vestal by Raffaele Monti.
Klum’s look was a departure from her 2025 appearance, where she wore a simple black gown. This year, she opted for a blend of materials like latex and spandex, paired with gray contacts and painted hands, face, and teeth.
The theme of the 2026 Met Gala was ‘Fashion Is Art.’ This year’s event raised funds for the Costume Institute and featured co-chairs including Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour.
The gala also marked a return for Klum after a 12-year hiatus from the event. She expressed her desire to stand out, stating, “I feel like I am out; there’s people all over the place that see when I’m going somewhere. I’m not gonna go in something snoozy.”
The Veiled Vestal sculpture itself was commissioned in 1846, highlighting the historical context behind Klum’s modern interpretation. This blending of past and present illustrates how fashion can serve as art.
Andrew Bolton noted the significance of this year’s theme: “The centrality of the dressed body, juxtaposing objects from across the museum’s vast collection with historical and contemporary garments from the Institute.” This perspective emphasizes how fashion is intertwined with artistic expression.
Klum’s bold choice has sparked discussions on fashion as an evolving form of art. The Costume Art exhibition will run from May 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027, further exploring these themes.
