In March 2026, liquidations in South Africa increased by 15% year-on-year. A total of 146 liquidations were recorded, up from 127 in March 2025. Voluntary liquidations accounted for 130 of these cases.
The trade, catering, and accommodation sector represented a fifth of all liquidations during this period. The increase was driven by both companies and close corporations, with liquidations of close corporations rising by 14 cases and companies by five.
Bokamoso Selepe stated that the lecture aims to provide actionable insights into overcoming common obstacles faced by aspiring entrepreneurs and early-stage business owners.
This trend reflects a pattern where businesses are shutting down in a controlled manner, often due to sustained financial pressure rather than sudden collapse. The current economic climate continues to challenge many sectors.
