Walmart is redesigning the packaging of its Great Value products. This change aims to help customers identify product features quickly.
Great Value is Walmart’s largest store brand, encompassing 10,000 different products. The new packaging will move nutritional information to the upper right corner, making it more accessible.
This marks the first full redesign for Great Value in over a decade. Walmart launched the brand 33 years ago. According to Walmart executives, “The updates include images that are intended to make the product inside more tempting to shoppers.”
Private brands accounted for 23.9% of packaged food and beverage products sold in the U.S. last year. Walmart’s store label brands represent about a quarter of the company’s U.S. merchandise sales.
In addition to the packaging changes, Walmart is offering the Magic: The Gathering Avatar The Last Airbender Beginner Box for $18.99. This price reflects a reduction from its previous cost of $24.39.
The Beginner Box serves as an entry point for new players in the Magic: The Gathering community. Currently, Amazon lists the same product at $23.66.
Walmart is also testing a new initiative to store third-party marketplace merchandise in some supercenters’ backrooms. This strategy aims to provide a larger selection of products with ultrafast delivery speeds.
The redesign of stores includes larger e-commerce fulfillment spaces as part of this initiative. A Walmart spokesperson stated, “Starting in a few markets, we’ll soon be offering a select assortment of marketplace items through the pickup and delivery experience customers already know and love.”
Furthermore, Walmart plans to eliminate synthetic dyes from its food private brands by 2027. Yet, details remain unconfirmed regarding how these changes will affect existing products.
