Severe thunderstorms are expected to impact the Netherlands this weekend, prompting a nationwide storm warning. The KNMI issued a code yellow alert for the entire country, except the Wadden Islands.
The storms will hit on Saturday afternoon, bringing hailstones up to 2 centimeters in size. Wind gusts may reach up to 75 kilometers per hour, and heavy downpours could result in up to 20 millimeters of rain within a short time.
Traffic and outdoor activities may be affected by flooding. The storms will begin in Zeeland, Noord-Brabant, and Limburg at 3:00 p.m. They are expected to move across the country from southwest to northeast.
Maximum temperatures on Friday reached up to 27 degrees Celsius. However, Saturday’s temperatures will drop, ranging between 18 degrees and 25 degrees Celsius.
The KNMI advised residents to prepare for severe weather conditions. “Prepare for hailstones up to 2 centimeters in size, strong winds with gusts up to 75 kilometers per hour, and up to 20 millimeters of rain falling in a short time,” the agency stated.
By midnight, the storms should leave the Netherlands. Mid-Saturday afternoon will see heavy rain and thunderstorms reaching the south of the country.
