Mercedes has claimed four Grand Prix wins from four at the start of Formula 1’s new era of rules. McLaren started the Miami event with pole position and victory in the Sprint format. Lando Norris became the first non-Mercedes driver to claim a pole position in 2026 during Sprint Qualifying.
Ferrari introduced 11 new parts, while McLaren and Red Bull each brought 7 new parts. In contrast, Mercedes only brought 2 updates to their car. Observers noted significant changes in performance related to these upgrades.
Kimi Antonelli extended his championship lead over teammate George Russell to 20 points after this race. Meanwhile, Ferrari failed to finish with a car in the top three for the first time this season.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen spun at the second corner during the Miami Grand Prix, compromising his race. Oscar Piastri finished third but was 27 seconds back. The rest of the drivers finished 40 seconds behind.
Andrea Stella commented on the situation, stating, “I think because of the upgrades that a large number of teams have delivered in Miami, we have seen some changes to the competitive picture.” Frederic Vasseur remarked on performance differences during the race.
Toto Wolff expressed caution about upgrades not correlating with improved lap times. He said, “Sometimes upgrades don’t correlate with the stopwatch, so we need to prove that out. I hope we can.”
