Darren Keet announced his retirement from professional soccer after winning the Nedbank Cup with Durban City on May 2, 2026, in Polokwane, South Africa.
“I’m not hinting at anything, I’m calling it quits at the end of this season so the Nedbank Cup was my first [trophy] and this Nedbank Cup is my last,” Keet stated after the match.
Durban City secured their maiden Nedbank Cup title by defeating TS Galaxy with a score of 2-1. The final took place at New Peter Mokaba Stadium, where Keet played a crucial role in the victory.
Keet’s journey began with the same trophy he now retires with. He made the decision to retire jointly with his wife, aiming to settle back in Cape Town. His last trophy celebration included his wife, kids, and parents at the stadium.
Keet expressed that the occasion was special for him and his family. “Obviously it’s special, my parents have been there throughout my whole career – [although] my dad’s never really been one to be involved, so it’s nice for him to enjoy these moments,” he shared.
His father attended the final, underscoring the family’s support throughout Keet’s career. The victory marked not only an end but also a celebration of a significant chapter in South African soccer.
