The DA is pressing for an investigation into Minister Sisisi Tolashe over allegations of misusing public funds for personal services. This call comes amid increasing demands for her removal from office.
The DA claims that Tolashe employed public servants as nannies at taxpayer expense. Additionally, she is accused of taking a portion of their salaries. Such actions raise serious ethical concerns regarding her leadership.
Minister Tolashe has faced multiple allegations of misconduct. One notable claim involves her use of cars donated by the Chinese Embassy without proper disclosure. Critics argue that these actions undermine trust in public service.
The parliamentary inquiry into police corruption is currently in its reporting drafting phase. The committee has raised concerns about a lack of resources to finalize its report. The final witness in this inquiry was KwaZulu-Natal’s Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
It is illegal to summarily fire an employee without following labor law processes, adding complexity to any potential repercussions for Tolashe. Her department has also been criticized for failing to support vulnerable South Africans effectively.
DA MP Nazley Sharif stated, “This would be a disgraceful act of corruption.” She emphasized that every day Tolashe remains in office without a full parliamentary inquiry is unacceptable. “It cannot be that a Minister is acting outside of ethical leadership and keeps getting away with it,” she added.
