Emotional Tribute at Rams Park
Victor Osimhen was honored by Galatasaray fans on March 10, 2026, during a Champions League match against Liverpool at Rams Park in Istanbul, Türkiye. The fans unveiled a giant tifo that featured a portrait of Osimhen alongside a tribute to his late mother, accompanied by the heartfelt message: ‘We are family and family is everything.’
The emotional tribute deeply affected Osimhen, who was seen crying during the event. This display of support from the fans highlighted the strong bond between the player and the club, as well as the significance of family in Osimhen’s life.
A Personal Connection
Osimhen’s early life was marked by hardship and poverty in Lagos, Nigeria. He lost his mother at a young age, a traumatic experience he has openly discussed. “My mother passed away at a very young age. My older brother called from the village, he said that my mother had slept and never woke up. When she left, it was really tough for the family,” Osimhen recalled.
In addition to the loss of his mother, Osimhen’s father also passed away in 2020. Growing up, he had six siblings and they lived in a one-room apartment, facing numerous challenges. To support his family, Osimhen took on dangerous work and sold bottles of water during his childhood.
Galatasaray’s Victory
On the same night as the tribute, Galatasaray secured a 1-0 victory against Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League tie. This win added to the emotional atmosphere of the evening, as fans celebrated both the team’s performance and their beloved player’s journey.
Osimhen has often expressed how football served as an escape route for him and his family from poverty. “Football was the only escape route for me and my family to get out of poverty,” he stated, emphasizing the sport’s role in transforming his life.
The tribute from Galatasaray fans not only celebrated Osimhen’s achievements on the pitch but also acknowledged the personal struggles he has faced throughout his life. The emotional response from the player reflects the deep connection he has with his roots and the support he continues to receive from his community.
