In a recent development, Telkom has donated 30 laptops and 30 MiFi connectivity devices to Sitoza Senior Secondary School during the relaunch of its ICT laboratory. This initiative aims to enhance the educational resources available to students, providing them with essential tools for learning.
Telkom’s commitment to education is underscored by its investment of over R100 million since 2020 in initiatives designed to strengthen learning outcomes in schools. Lerato Mostoeneng, a representative from Telkom, stated, “Today, the need for businesses to play a meaningful role in society has never been greater.” This sentiment reflects the growing recognition of corporate responsibility in supporting education.
In addition to the donation, Telkom FutureMakers has launched TrailblazeHER, a three-month Women-in-Tech Enablement Accelerator. This program is specifically designed to scale black women-owned technology enterprises within the digital economy, supporting 10 black women-owned suppliers within Telkom’s value chain. Tshepo Phetla, a spokesperson for Telkom FutureMakers, emphasized, “Telkom FutureMakers’ mandate is to grow the digital economy by developing high-growth, black-owned enterprises that create meaningful jobs and long-term economic value.”
Furthermore, Telkom VS Gaming is set to host live esports finals at Comic Con Cape Town, scheduled for April 30 to May 3. The finals will feature top grassroots, school, and semi-professional players from across South Africa, showcasing the growing interest in competitive gaming.
Mr. Malusi Madyolo, a community leader, expressed gratitude for the donation, stating, “This donation means a great deal to us as a community and as parents. It gives our children access to the tools and skills they need to learn, grow and build brighter futures.” This reflects the positive impact of Telkom’s initiatives on local communities.
Telkom has a history of contributing to public-private partnerships that support basic education across the country. The company’s ongoing efforts highlight the importance of collaboration between the private sector and educational institutions to foster a better learning environment.
As these initiatives unfold, the community and stakeholders are keenly observing the outcomes and potential benefits for students and aspiring entrepreneurs in the technology sector.
