What Happened
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is set to commence payments for social grants in March 2026. According to Sassa, the payment schedule is as follows: the Older Persons Grant will be paid on Tuesday, March 3, the Disability Grant on Wednesday, March 4, and the Children’s Grants on Thursday, March 5.
Why It Matters
This month marks a significant update in social grant payments, as all grants, excluding the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, will see an increase in the next financial year. The Old Age Grant will rise from R2,315 to R2,400, while the Disability Grant will also increase to R2,400. Other grants, such as the Child Support Grant, will increase from R560 to R580. These adjustments reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing social support for vulnerable populations.
What’s Next
Beneficiaries are advised to heed SMS notifications from Sassa regarding grant reviews, as failure to respond could lead to lapsing grants and non-payment. The SRD grant will remain at R370, with payments continuing until March 31, 2027. Sassa has urged beneficiaries to avoid rushing to collect funds on the first day, as the money will remain available in their accounts until needed.
