RCL Foods Issues Recall of 38 Pet Food Products
RCL Foods has issued a recall of 38 popular pet food products due to risks of Salmonella contamination. The affected items include limited batches of well-known brands such as Bobtail, Bonzo, Catmor, Canine Cuisine, Feline Cuisine, Optimizor, and Ultra Pet Dog food.
The recall specifically targets batches with best-before dates ranging from 22 June 2026 to 21 October 2026. This action was prompted by the recent theft of condemned dry pet food that had been sent for destruction, which was subsequently resold on the informal market.
RCL Foods is actively working with retailers, regulators, and relevant authorities to ensure the removal of all affected products from the market. Shoppers are urged to return any recalled products to their retailers for a refund or replacement.
RCL Foods CEO Paul Cruickshank expressed his apologies to affected shoppers, stating, “On behalf of RCL FOODS, I want to apologise to all affected shoppers. Our primary concern is the health and well-being of shoppers and their pets.” He further acknowledged the company’s failure to meet its own standards, saying, “We did not meet our own standards. This is not what our customers expect from RCL FOODS. We are taking every step necessary to rectify the situation.”
Salmonella is a recognized food and feed safety pathogen that poses health risks to both pets and humans. The company is conducting an investigation into how the condemned products made it to the formal market, as they were intended for destruction.
As the situation develops, RCL Foods is committed to addressing the issue and ensuring the safety of their products. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the investigation and any further actions that may be taken.
