IPL 2026 Season Set to Begin
“RCB extends its sincere gratitude to the Government of Karnataka, the Karnataka State Cricket Association and the Karnataka Police for their unwavering guidance, cooperation and support in facilitating the hosting of matches in Bengaluru,” stated a representative from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
The IPL 2026 season is officially set to commence on March 28, 2026, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This venue holds significant importance as it is not only the home ground for RCB but also the site of the tournament’s final and one playoff match.
RCB, the defending champions, clinched the title in 2025 by defeating Punjab Kings by a narrow margin of six runs. The upcoming season will see RCB play five home games at Chinnaswamy Stadium and two additional matches at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur.
Rajesh Menon, CEO of RCB, remarked, “The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is more than just our home ground; it is where our identity as a team truly comes alive.” This sentiment underscores the emotional connection the team has with its fans and the city.
Following a tragic incident during the IPL 2025 celebrations, where a stampede resulted in 11 fatalities, cricket activities at Chinnaswamy Stadium were suspended. Enhanced safety protocols and infrastructure upgrades have since been implemented to ensure a secure environment for players and spectators alike.
After detailed discussions and completing the necessary due process around permissions, Menon confirmed that RCB will indeed play five matches in Bengaluru. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently awaiting official confirmation from authorities before finalizing the dates.
Matches coinciding with polling duties could lead to security shortages, necessitating venue changes and adjustments to team travel plans, according to a BCCI official. This adds an element of complexity to the scheduling process.
As of now, the full fixture list for IPL 2026 has not been released, and details remain unconfirmed regarding the opponent for RCB’s opening match. The season is expected to run from March 26 to May 31, 2026, aligning with the cricket calendar.
Fans and stakeholders are eagerly anticipating the upcoming season, hoping for an exciting series of matches that will showcase the best of Indian cricket.
