“The group denounced what it described as the return of ‘repressive measures’ targeting fans and restricting their freedom of movement,” stated the supporters group Winners 2005, following FUS Rabat’s 1-0 victory over Wydad AC in a recent Botola Pro match.
The match, held at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, was a postponed fixture from matchday 10 of the 2025/26 Botola Pro season. It marked the debut of new Wydad AC coach Patrice Carteron, who faced immediate challenges as his team struggled to find their footing.
Wydad AC’s defeat was compounded by the injury of star player Hakim Ziyech in the first half, leaving the team without a shot on target for the remainder of the match. This loss left Wydad AC one point behind league leaders Raja, intensifying the pressure on the team.
Winners 2005, the club’s supporters group, had announced a boycott of the match, criticizing the rising ticket prices and the restrictions placed on away supporters. They claimed that only 5% of stadium capacity was allowed for visiting fans, a move they deemed unfair.
“They questioned the justification for such restrictions in a city that recently welcomed Moroccan fans from across the country during national team matches,” the group added, highlighting the inconsistency in fan treatment.
Additionally, Winners 2005 argued that the rising costs of attending matches do not reflect the financial realities of ordinary supporters. They expressed frustration over their inability to secure tickets after they were released online.
Despite the boycott, the group urged Wydad players to secure a victory following their recent continental setback, emphasizing their ongoing support for the team amidst the controversy.
FUS Rabat’s victory allowed them to climb to 8th place in the league table, while Wydad AC’s struggles continue as they adapt to their new coach and navigate the challenges posed by their supporters’ discontent.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the long-term implications of this match on both teams as the season progresses.
