A power outage is affecting multiple suburbs in Johannesburg due to an issue at the Prospect Substation. The affected areas include Turffontein, Regents Park, Haddon, Springfield, Oakdene, South Hills, Kliprivierberg, City Deep, Towerby, Tulisa Park, Rosettenville, Townsview, Moffatview, Lynmeyer, La Rochelle, Kenilworth Glenesk and surrounding neighbourhoods.
City Power conducted a site visit and revenue-collection drive in Booysens, Rosettenville, and City Deep on March 23. During this revenue drive, City Power collected outstanding debts from two defaulting customers in Booysens. Issac Mangena stated, “We’re always following up on defaulters and illegal occupants. The site visit showed us exactly where the problems are, and we won’t hesitate to cut power or pursue legal steps to protect our service and the paying customers.”
A planned power outage will affect 16 suburbs in Johannesburg on April 2, 2026, for maintenance work. At the Braamfontein Substation, the outage will run from 08:30 to 16:30, while at the Cydna Substation, power will be interrupted from 09:00 to 17:00. City Power has urged residents to treat all electricity supply points as live, as power may be restored at any time.
City Power is also encouraging customers with Small-Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG) systems to register their installations. Eskom reports continued improvements in grid stability and a reduction in unplanned outages compared to previous years.
City Power has restored power in several suburbs that experienced outages earlier this week due to faulty cables. Residents are advised to limit the use of high-consumption appliances during peak hours to manage electricity demand.
