Christian Horner is reportedly being considered for the role of team principal at Audi following the departure of Jonathan Wheatley. This development comes as Horner, who previously led Red Bull Racing, has garnered significant support from fans, with over 80% backing him as the ideal candidate for the position.
During his tenure at Red Bull, Horner achieved remarkable success, winning eight drivers’ championships and six constructors’ titles, while overseeing 124 grand prix victories. His leadership has been instrumental in establishing Red Bull as a dominant force in Formula 1.
Currently, Mattia Binotto has taken over team principal responsibilities at Audi while also serving as the Head of Audi F1 Project. Binotto has indicated that the team will not actively search for a new principal, focusing instead on internal solutions.
Horner’s potential move to Audi would require him to relocate to Switzerland, a step he did not take during his time at Red Bull. There are also rumors that he is pursuing an ownership stake at Alpine and has been linked to a possible role at Aston Martin.
Juan Pablo Montoya has publicly supported Horner’s candidacy, stating, “People underestimate what Christian has done, how long he has been doing it for, and what he achieved.” Montoya emphasized that Horner’s ability to deliver results is undeniable, saying, “You may like him, you may hate him, but he can deliver results.”
Horner was dismissed from his role at Red Bull following the British Grand Prix in July 2025, marking a significant change in his career. As he navigates these new opportunities, the final decision on his potential appointment at Audi remains unclear.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding whether Horner will pursue opportunities at Alpine or Aston Martin. The effectiveness of Binotto’s dual role at Audi is also yet to be determined, as the team adjusts to its new leadership structure.
