The Premier League’s Key Match Incidents Panel has ruled that no penalty should be awarded to Amad Diallo during the match against Bournemouth on April 2, 2026. The decision came after a controversial incident in which Diallo went down in the penalty area following contact from Bournemouth defender Adrien Truffert.
Referee Stuart Attwell did not award a penalty after reviewing the incident, and the VAR, Craig Pawson, also concluded there was no clear and obvious error in the referee’s decision. The KMI Panel voted 3-2 against awarding a penalty for the incident involving Diallo.
The Premier League stated that the contact made by Truffert was not impactful and fell below the high threshold for a foul. “While Truffert ran a risk, the contact made was not impactful and therefore fell below the high threshold for a foul,” a spokesperson from the Premier League commented.
Following the non-call, Bournemouth equalized the match shortly after, scoring in the 67th minute. The final score was 1-1, with both teams having scored two goals each during the match.
Michael Carrick, the manager of Manchester United, expressed dissatisfaction with the refereeing decisions during the match, highlighting the impact of the incident on the game’s outcome. He remarked, “If it’s a 50-50 decision, there’s a 100% chance it’s going to go against United.”
The incident gained further attention due to a similar foul being called against Manchester United earlier in the same game, raising questions about consistency in officiating.
Diallo’s role in the team has evolved significantly; he was previously forced to play wingback under a different system before Carrick’s arrival, which has allowed him to showcase his attacking skills more effectively.
In related news, INEOS is reportedly interested in signing Iliman Ndiaye, who has been compared to Diallo. Former player Louis Saha noted, “Ndiaye, from the moment he signed, he’s been an amazing talent. I would love to see him, maybe at some point at Man Utd, to be honest.”
As the season progresses, observers will be watching closely to see how Manchester United navigates the challenges of officiating and player performance in upcoming matches. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further actions or appeals related to the incident.
