What Happened
Libyan football club Al Ittihad SC has parted ways with head coach Khaled Ben Yahia, as reported by African Football journalist Micky Junior. The decision comes as a surprise, given that Ben Yahia had only joined the club on October 30, following a two-legged defeat to Egypt’s Al Masry in the CAF Confederation Cup qualification.
Why It Matters
During his brief tenure, Ben Yahia managed the team in 10 matches, achieving an impressive record of nine wins and one draw. Under his leadership, Al Ittihad currently sits atop Group Two of the Libyan Premiership and has advanced to the round of 16 in the Libyan Cup. Despite this success, the club has chosen to pursue a different direction, although an official announcement regarding his departure has yet to be made on Al Ittihad’s social media platforms.
What’s Next
Speculation is rife regarding Ben Yahia’s successor, with reports suggesting that South African coach Rulani Mokwena could be in line for the position. Mokwena, who previously managed MC Alger, is currently enjoying a successful season there. Negotiations between Mokwena and Al Ittihad are reportedly at an advanced stage, and should he accept the role, he would reunite with former player Thembinkosi Lorch, who currently plays for Al Ittihad.
