ADvTECH Group has secured 10 hectares of land for a new university mega-campus in the Durban–Umhlanga corridor, which is expected to accommodate more than 10,000 students. Construction is slated to begin in 2027, with the first phase scheduled to open in 2029.
The first phase of the campus will have the capacity to accommodate around 8,000 students and will feature three academic buildings. Facilities will include specialized laboratories for various engineering and technology fields, enhancing the educational offerings in these critical sectors.
Additionally, the first phase will include a 500-bed student residence, providing essential accommodation for students. This development follows two other new tertiary institutions opened by ADvTECH Group in 2026, indicating the company’s commitment to expanding higher education opportunities in the region.
The land for the new campus was purchased from Fundamentum Property Group, and the project aims to provide training in sectors linked to technology, engineering, and innovation. This initiative is expected to significantly boost economic activity in surrounding communities, contributing to local development.
The region has seen significant investment in recent years, making it an ideal location for a higher education facility. Observers are keen to see how this project unfolds, particularly regarding its impact on local employment and educational outcomes.
As the project progresses, further details regarding the later phases, which could bring the total student capacity to 10,500 and add additional beds for student accommodation, remain unconfirmed.
