Cape Town Cycle Tour Set for 2026
The Cape Town Cycle Tour, recognized as the world’s largest timed cycling event, is scheduled to take place on March 8, 2026. Approximately 30,000 riders are expected to participate in this iconic race, which covers a distance of 109 kilometers around the picturesque Cape Peninsula.
The route will begin at the Grand Parade and conclude next to the Cape Town Stadium in Green Point, showcasing some of the most scenic views in South Africa. Notable landmarks along the route include Chapman’s Peak, Camps Bay, and Hout Bay, making it a highlight for both participants and spectators alike.
Road closures will be implemented on March 7 and 8, particularly affecting areas in the Central Business District, Green Point, Sea Point, Southern Suburbs, and the Deep South. Kevin Jacobs, a spokesperson for the event, emphasized the importance of these closures, stating, “The road closures are necessary to ensure the safety of cyclists, spectators and residents.”
Popular viewing areas for spectators will include M3 in Newlands, Kendal Road in Bergvliet, and Steenberg Road to Simon’s Town, providing ample opportunities to cheer on the riders.
As the 48th edition of the tour approaches, organizers are urging participants and spectators to plan their travel in advance and utilize alternative routes where possible. Jacobs added, “Plan your travel in advance and to make use of alternative routes where possible.”
The steepest gradient of the tour is found on Edinburgh Drive, also known as Whineberg Hill, which presents a challenging ascent for many riders. This event has a long-standing history and remains a significant occasion for both participants and the local community.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding additional safety measures and logistical arrangements as the event date approaches, but the excitement surrounding the Cape Town Cycle Tour continues to build.
