RCL Foods Pet Food Recall: 38 Products Affected
RCL Foods has issued a recall of 38 popular pet food products due to risks of Salmonella contamination. The affected products include well-known brands such as Bobtail, Bonzo, Catmor, Canine Cuisine, Feline Cuisine, Optimizor, and Ultra Pet Dog food.
The recall affects specific batches with best-before dates ranging from 22 June 2026 to 21 October 2026. RCL Foods has acknowledged that some condemned products were erroneously released to the formal trade, and there are reports that some of these products were stolen and resold on the informal market.
RCL Foods is actively working with retailers, regulators, and authorities to remove the affected products from circulation. Shoppers are urged to return any recalled items for a refund or replacement. RCL Foods CEO Paul Cruickshank expressed his apologies to affected shoppers, stating, “On behalf of RCL FOODS, I want to apologise to all affected shoppers. Our primary concern is the health and well-being of shoppers and their pets.”
In a statement, Cruickshank emphasized, “Our immediate priority is to recall, remove and replace all potentially affected products from circulation. We did not meet our own standards. This is not what our customers expect from RCL FOODS. We are taking every step necessary to rectify the situation.”
Salmonella is a recognized food and feed safety pathogen that poses health risks to both pets and humans. The company has confirmed that the recall includes limited batches manufactured at one of its pet food plants.
An investigation is currently underway to determine how the condemned products made it to the formal market. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact circumstances surrounding this issue.
Historically, condemned dry pet food was sent to a waste management facility for destruction, highlighting the importance of stringent safety protocols in food production.
As the situation develops, RCL Foods continues to prioritize the safety of its customers and their pets, ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to address the contamination risk.
