Y&R Jozi staff members recently had the opportunity to become involved in an initiative by the non-profit organization The Hands of Hope.
The Fill-A-Shoebox, Fill a Heart- initiative connected staff from Base2 and Y&R with needy children in the Heidelberg area who are currently beneficiaries of donations to The Hands of Hope Foundation.
Y&R volunteers could each choose one or more names of children of various ages and had the goal to fill a shoebox with goodies—necessities like shampoo, soap, a T-shirt, something sweet, as well as school supplies.
Not only did staff become involved in their individual capacity, but the Y&R Production team donated an additional gift bag of sweets for each child while the design team hand-drew specially designed wrapping paper which doubles up as colouring paper after it has been unwrapped. Staff members were also given the opportunity to wrap the boxes at a function held on Friday, 19 April, which underlined the collective team effort.
According to Lindie Stander, director of the Hands of Hope , they are planning a field trip where each of the boxes and bags will be handed out to the children.
