Stop Hunger Now recently became one of Y&R’s pro bono accounts. This organization is devoted to trying to end hunger in Southern Africa in our lifetime. Why is this important? In developing countries, such as South Africa, 10.9 million children under the age of 5 die of hunger-related causes every year. This means that a child dies every 6 seconds. In order to reduce these numbers, Stop Hunger Now concentrates on providing dehydrated meal packs to schools and orphanages in impoverished communities. Each meal pack costs R12, serves 6 people and consists of rice, soy, vegetables, flavouring and 21 essential vitamins and minerals. The organisation depends on donations and volunteers to sponsor and pack meals.
On Friday, Y&R Cape Town set aside some time for a food packing event for Stop Hunger Now; “We packed 4,320 meals in just 66 minutes! These meals will be distributed to child care centres in the area. We had a lot of fun, which was made meaningful by the knowledge that we were helping those in need.”
