Today Y&R Johannesburg honoured Nelson Mandela in celebration of his 94th birthday. For those who don’t know, the 67mins Mandela encourages South Africans to give back to society, is symbolic of his 67 years in public service. And from that we too can learn how to give of ourselves.
Our WPP group volunteer day is a chance for all of us to make a difference in someone’s life and so we decided to host 40 preschool children from Kid’s Haven, a shelter that we’ve supported for more than 10 years! The shelter aims to rehabilitate children living and working on the streets and helps to reintroduce them into society – something we played a part in today.
Party activities included singing, dancing, drawing, jumping on the jumping castle, craft making, face painting, Clamber Club obstacles and more. Thank you to all of our sponsors, namely: Danone, Colgate, Base Two and Jawbone.
It was an incredibly rewarding event to put together – the children definitely had fun and were spoilt by the staff, many of whom adopted a child for the day, making real connections with the children.
What’s more, we donated over 100 story books to the shelter, plus clothes, food and toys.
Nice to see the Y&R peeps rolling up their sleeves to make a difference. Thank you!
