About Us

We aim to challenge and reinvent; to find more effective ways of making our clients’ brands move their customers. And to do so in a manner that is differentiated for their brand while being relevant to their specific customer. We aim to Resist the Usual. This is not difference for difference sake; that way lies gimmickry and short-termism. This is difference and relevance, the cornerstone of successful brand building. We use the power of insights, ideas and impact to deliver work that’s impossible to ignore. This binds us. This fires us up. This is who we are.

Behind The Scenes

The John Smit Foundation, affectionately known as “Barney’s Army”, provides the platform for John to use his admirable rugby legacy to do good for others in the future. John’s nickname amongst his close friends is Barney based on a character in The Simpsons, because of their similarities -  large stature, red hair and warm nature!

In order to launch Barney’s Army, John assembled a worldclass invitational team made up of international stars and household names. They will be challenging the Sharks in the Shark Tank on Friday, 22 June. This charity match will be John’s last game.

Y&R’s client, Land Rover is one of the main sponsors and handed over a specially, army-designed Defender. The agency hosted a shoot last week to promote the cause by showcasing the Barney’s Army Defender, which will feature in the squeezebacks and stings during the game on TV.

The campaign aims to attract support for Barney’s Army and the John Smit Foundation by encouraging the public to attend the game and donate on their website – www.barneysarmy.co.za. Ticket proceeds will go towards the charities the foundation supports – The Chris Burger Petro Jackson Fund, Bobbi Bear Foundation and the LIV Village.
